Tata Motors showcased its new electric vehicle concept, the Tata Curvv, on April 6 2022, as promised. Some expected it to be the final concept version of the Tata Sierra EV, while others expected it to be the Nexon Coupe EV long-range variant. Those waiting for the iconic Tata Sierra to return in an EV avatar will have to wait longer, as the Tata Curvv concept is more likely to spawn an EV Coupe, which will slot between the Tata Nexon and the Tata Harrier. It is expected to be 4.3-metres in length and will be pitted against the Hyundai Creta in the market.

He commented that Tata Motors SUVs are in strong demand in the market. Tata Nexon recently beat the Hyundai Creta to take the crown of India’s most selling SUV. The Tata Punch micro SUV also has been selling like hotcakes ever since its launch. The company is looking to capitalise on it with the launch of another SUV.
The Tata Curvv SUV will come as an EV first in the market and will be followed by the ICE versions later. Since it’s clear that Tata is not using a skateboard platform for this one, it is likely to be built on the Omega-Arc platform, which also underpins the current generation Tata Harrier and the Tata Safari. Tata’s Omega-Arc is a modular platform and can be used for vehicles from 4.3 metres to 4.8 metres in length. The updated Ziptron motor and more efficient Li-ion battery pack are expected to offer a range of 400km to 500km on a single charge.
The Tata Curvv is the brainchild of Martin Ulharik, Head of Global Design at Tata Motors, who took over after the resignation of the much-famed Pratap Bose last year. This is the first product under Ulharik’s leadership. Design-wise, the Tata Curvv looks muscular and the front end looks inspired by the Tata Punch, albeit larger in size. There’s a wide LED DRL strip at the front and the headlights will be placed on the bumper, similar to the Harrier, Safari, and Punch. It gets flared wheel arches giving it a wide stance. The side profile is accentuated by the strong shoulder line. The rear is a coupe design, which we have seen on the BMW X6/X4, Audi Q3 Sportback etc. The taillight design is unlike what we have seen on Tata cars so far. It is sleek and comes with a 3D design.
The Tata Curvv will be a five-seater electric car and won’t get a seven-seater version in the near future. The EV will have a digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment system. The two-spoke steering wheel will have touch controls and an illuminated Tata logo at the centre. The dashboard will carry a minimalist design approach with fewer physical buttons. The car will have ample interior space, which has been a hallmark of Tata cars lately. Also, the panoramic sunroof will add to the sense of space in the interior.
The Tata Curvv is expected to launch by 2024. The ICE versions of the Tata Curvv will be powered by the 1.5-litre diesel engine and the petrol version is likely to get a newly developed 1.5-litre turbocharged engine. The Tata Curvv will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai Kona in the market. Also, it will be the first in the segment to offer such a coupe-styled rear design. Expect it to be priced between ₹15 lakhs to ₹22 lakhs ex-showroom.
