Tata Motors India has launched its highly anticipated Tata Nexon EV Max electric SUV today. The vehicle is an extended range version of the standard Nexon EV, which was launched back in 2020.
The EV Max features a 33 percent increased battery capacity which will reduce the range anxiety amongst the buyers and will also allow inter-city travelling, says Tata Motors. The electric vehicle comes with an ARAI certified range of 447 km. So, you can expect a real-life driving range of around 300km to 320km depending upon the traffic, vehicle speed, weather, and air conditioner usage. Let’s dive into what else has changed in this new EV.
Nexon EV Max: Features, Specifications
The Nexon EV Max gets a larger 40.5kWh battery pack as opposed to the 30kWh of the standard Nexon EV. Despite the larger size, the battery pack hasn’t eaten into its boot capacity, which is still 350 litres. Tata Motors says the vehicle comes with a 50:50 weight distribution and a low centre of gravity owing to the smart placement of the battery pack. The battery thermals are managed by active liquid cooling technology, thus reducing the risks of a battery fire. The car can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in about 56 minutes at a DC fast charging station.
The Nexon EV Max sports a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that puts out 143 PS and 250Nm of torque as opposed to the 127 PS and 245Nm of the older model. It now reaches from 0-100 km/h in under 9 seconds. The top speed has also increased to an electronically limited 140 km/h. The motor and the battery pack are IP67 rated for water and dust resistance and are backed by an eight year/1,60,000 km warranty.
Aesthetically, it comes with a new set of R16 alloy wheels. The interiors has a wholly redesigned floor console, which gets an electronic parking brake with an Auto-Hold function instead of a physical handbrake. It is flanked by multi-mode regen buttons on the left. The rotary drive selector is now a digital one with a chrome knurled finish. The drive selector is flanked by the Sports/Eco driving modes. The “Tambour” door makes way for a wireless smartphone charger.
The top-spec variant now comes with Markrana Beige leatherette seats with ventilation for the front row. It also comes with a newly-added air purifier and an auto-dimming IRVM. The Tata Nexon EV Max features cruise control as standard, which should be beneficial to cruise between 50 km/h and 60 km/h on a highway, which is the ideal speed if you want to extract the maximum range out of an EV.
Other notable features of the Nexon EV Max include dual airbags, electric sunroof, regen-based auto brake lamps, traction control, all-wheel disc brakes, hill descent/ hill hold control, ABS with EBD, ESP, brake disc wiping, semi-digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment, smartwatch app integration, and TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring), among other features.
Tata Nexon EV Max: Price, Availability
The Tata Nexon EV Max comes in two trims, namely XZ+ and XZ+ Lux. The XZ+ trim is priced at ₹17,74,000 ex-showroom, while the top-spec XZ+ Lux variant comes at a price of ₹18,74,000 ex-showroom. Do note that the Nexon EV Max won’t be eligible for the central government’s FAME-II subsidies as it exceeds the ₹15,00,000 ex-showroom limit. So, the on-road cost difference between the Nexon EV Max and the standard Nexon EV could be huge, considering the latter is eligible for subsidies.
The Nexon EV Max comes bundled with a 3.3kW AC charger. You can opt for the faster 7.2kW AC charger for an extra ₹50,000. The car comes in Intensi-Teal, Daytona Grey, and Pristine White colourways.
