These are early days in the transition of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) driven cars/ motorcycles to electric mobility solutions. Established automakers and new companies are looking to capture a chunk of this growing market. Crayon Motors, an Indian startup company, is the latest entrant in the EV business. The company has launched its new electric scooter, the Snow+. It will come at affordable prices, a good set of features, and a purported14 paise per km running cost. The scooter will come as a cheaper alternative to relatively expensive electric scooters such as the Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1/S1 Pro, and Ather 450/450x.

It is strikingly similar to Piaggio’s popular scooter, the Vespa. It comes with chrome highlights on its round headlights, all-chrome rearview mirrors, chrome clutch and brake levers, and embellishments on the front fender. The front suspension is a telescopic unit. The scooter gets tubeless tyres, alloy wheels, and a disc brake at the front. Keeping in mind the Indian use case, the scooter comes with a flat footwell to accommodate some luggage. It comes with a 155mm ground clearance, which should take all the crater-like potholes and humongous speed-breakers in its stride without any fuss.
The scooter comes loaded with features such as a digital speedometer, central locking, GPS navigation, and a USB charging port for mobile devices. You also get an anti-theft mechanism for added security.
The Snow+ e-scooter is powered by a 250-watt BLDC (Brushless DC) motor for better response, low frictional losses, noiseless operation, and high energy efficiency. It can reach a top speed of 25 km/hr, so don’t expect it to win any rally championships for you. The company is targeting city dwellers and should be enough to get you from point A to point B at those speeds. You don’t require a driving license or vehicle registration to ride this electric scooter. It claims that the driving range on a single charge is 70km.
Crayon Motors will also be introducing two high-speed models capable of delivering 70km to 130km driving range by the end of this month.
Snow+ Price, Availability
Crayon Motors has priced its Snow+ electric at ₹64,000 (ex-showroom). The scooter will be available in four different colourways, namely Fiery Red, Sunshine Yellow, Classic Grey & Super white. It will be covered with a two-year warranty and will be available for purchase at 100 retail locations in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, and a few other regions.
Crayon Motors has partnered with Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IDFC First, Manappuram Finance, Zest Money, and many others to offer finance options for its customers.
