CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3’s much anticipated PS5 and Xbox Series X/S updates have been delayed “until further notice”. The game developer shared via a tweet that it will continue development on The Witcher 3’s next-gen upgrades by taking it in-house. This will postpone the upgrade which was earlier planned for the second quarter of 2022.
“Based on recommendations from persons in charge of development, the Company has decided to have its in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”, CD Projekt said in an investor statement. The firm added, “The Company is currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus has to postpone the game’s release, previously scheduled for Q2 2022”.
The Witcher 3 Development To Be Completed In-House
Following the announcement, various reports insinuated that the Witcher 3 upgrades have been delayed indefinitely. This could be worrying for some fans, as it would appear that there was some trouble brewing for the game. However, in an investor’s call, CD Projekt’s senior vice president of business development Michal Nowakowski reassured gamers that this is not the case.
Nowakowski stated, “Everything we’re saying is—we have taken the development of the game in-house. The game is going to be finished in-house. We’re evaluating our time, that requires a bit of investigation—that’s all we’re saying. Nobody’s saying the game is delayed [with] some monumental time gap ahead of us. That’s as much as I can say about Witcher next-gen, but I really want to emphasize that fact”.
The Witcher 3 next-gen upgrade is being developed for PS5 and Xbox Series X-S consoles. It will also be released to PC as a free update. Although CD Projekt Red has not hinted at an upgrade timeline, we can expect it to arrive sometime in the near future.
