With the 5G spectrum auction expected to happen in May, the country is all set to embrace 5G network in the near future. It is said to deliver 10 times faster data speed than 4G, thereby introducing the latest-gen internet speeds to the country. Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi), one of the leading telcos of the country, is also in the 5G race, as it has been conducting 5G trials in India for quite some time now. In a recent development, the company has successfully demonstrated 5G Voice over New Radio (VoNR) with its technology partner Nokia.

According to a new report, the company has been successful in demonstrating Voice over New Radio (VoNR) on Nokia devices.
VoNR solutions, once deployed, will enable Vi to offer its subscribers high-definition voice experience over 5G, including several advanced voice applications and use cases in the future. The telco has conducted the VoNR trial on Nokia’s solutions including its AirScale 5G RAN, 5G Core and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) voice core. By using 5G network for both voice and data services, the solution can offer superior user experience on a reliable and low latency network when used commercially.
We are testing technology solutions for offering superior network experience and use cases of relevance to digital enterprises and consumers, during our 5G Trials. Having achieved the fastest 5G speeds in the country and demonstration of a wide range of use cases, we have now successfully tested VoNR service which offers the best call quality on 5G networks, using technology solutions from Nokia. In its previous 5G trials with Nokia, Vi recorded internet speeds in excess of 4Gbps. The company also showcased unique consumer use cases such as AI-based VR streaming, Roller Coaster Gaming, VR 5G Connected Schools and 360 degree VR Content Playbacks as part of the trials. Vi has also leveraged Nokia’s 5G Radio Access Network and 5G core to successfully showcase secure network slicing use case. It also trialed the utilization of 5G in mid-band to provide rural broadband connectivity in Gandhinagar.
