Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo announced its entry into the foldable smartphones space today. The company released images and a teaser video of its first-ever foldable handset, the Vivo X Fold. The device will be launched next month on April 11 in China. The Vivo X Fold will take on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 in the market and is expected to undercut it in terms of pricing.
Vivo X Fold Confirmed Specifications
The Vivo X Fold carries a similar design language as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, with a large cover screen and a tablet-like inner display, which is foldable, of course. The brand says the inner screen will stay crease-free and the frequent opening and closing will not affect its operation. Both the inner and outer screens will be high refresh rate OLED screens. The transition between the outer screen and inner screen will be seamless without any frame drops or colour differences.
Vivo has managed to include ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensors on both the outer screen as well the inner foldable display. Vivo claims it hasn’t compromised on the quality of materials, which appear to be true, as the phone is built out of metal with a leather back finish. The rectangular glossy top part includes the circular camera housing that comprises the quad-camera setup, ZEISS branding, and an LED flash. Vivo has also confirmed that the Vivo X Fold smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and most powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

The inner display will be an 8-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED display with a 120HZ refresh rate. It will come with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.
The primary camera will be a 50MP Samsung GN1 sensor with f/1.57 aperture and gimbal OIS. The ultra-wide camera shooter will be a 48MP Sony IMX598 sensor with 4-axis OIS Gimbal stabilisation. The periscope snapper will be an 8MP sensor with 5x optical zoom, 60x digital zoom, and OIS. The final camera will be a 12MP portrait shooter.
The Vivo X Fold will come with a 4,600mAh battery, which seems pretty low for a phone with dual screens and such powerful hardware. However, it will come with an 80W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging that should get it running again in a few minutes. The device will run on Funtouch OS 12 on top of Android 12 OS.
