Earlier this week, Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi 12S series in the Chinese market. The Xiaomi 12S series consists of three devices—the Xiaomi 12S, Xiaomi 12S Pro, and Xiaomi 12S Ultra. These devices come with a Leica-tuned camera setup and the brand is portraying the Xiaomi 12 Ultra as the best camera smartphone available in the market as of now.
Right after the launch, people took to social media to share their excitement for the latest Xiaomi smartphones. However, it turns out they might end up getting disappointed. A report by Android Authority reveals that the Xiaomi 12S series devices will remain exclusive to China and may not launch in global markets.
Folks at Android Authority reached out to Xiaomi to enquire about the Xiaomi 12S series global availability. In response to the email, a Xiaomi representative said, “Xiaomi will offer Xiaomi 12S Series exclusively in Mainland China.” The representative further added that users in international markets will also benefit from this strategic partnership between Xiaomi and Leica, “Our strategic partnership in imaging technology will have long-term impacts beyond the scope of this series, into Xiaomi’s international markets.”
In related news, Xiaomi has filed a legal lawsuit against CoolAPK for leaking the Leica camera app. To those unaware, the Xiaomi 12S series devices come with a brand new Leica camera app. Right after the launch, people extracted the APK from the Xiaomi 12S series smartphones and uploaded it on the web. As per a few YouTube videos, the leaked apk can be installed on most Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices including the POCO F4, Redmi Note 11, Xiaomi Mi 11X, and more.
