With the latest Wear OS 3 operating system, Google finally introduced the YouTube Music app for its smartwatch platform. Thankfully, the search giant is not planning to leave behind those stuck with older smartwatches. As per the latest post Google’s community manager, the Mountainview-based company is bringing the YouTube Music app to existing Wear OS 2-based smartwatches. The addition of YouTube Music was much-awaited because similar functionality has been missing in Wear OS ever since the Google Play Music was discontinued.

You can listen to the music right from your wrist without connecting it to a smartphone. Goes without saying that this feature will be useful during workouts. Those with a YouYube Music Premium subscription can access a library of over 80 million songs. It offers an ad-free experience and offline music playback.
Keeping the smaller screen in mind, the app has been designed to surface limited options. Within Downloads, you get quick access to ‘Offline Mixtape’ and ‘Your Likes’. Apart from that, you get options such as ‘Discover Mix’ and ‘Recommended’. The app offers playback controls as well as buttons to ‘Like’ or ‘Unlike’ a track.
Wear OS YouTube Music App Rollout
The YouTube Music app will be made available to Wear OS 2 devices starting this week. Watches based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100 or 4100+ chipset will be given a priority. So, if you own the Fossil Gen 6, Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, TicWatch Pro 3 Cellular/LTE, or TicWatch E3, you won’t have to wait much to get YouTube Music on your wrist. Older watches powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip will receive the YouTube Music later this year.
On a related note, the Wear OS software update is expected to hit existing devices by mid-2022. If you are looking to purchase a smartwatch in India, check out our handpicked recommendations by heading over to this link.
