Google has been waiting a long time to offer 5.1 audio sound to YouTube TV users, but the good news is that it will soon be available on a number of Android TV, Google TV, and Roku devices. This function has been requested for a long time, and we are pleased that it is now available on more devices.

To check the Cobalt version for your TV, go to your profile photo/ About/ App Version in the YouTube TV app on your streaming device. After “Cobalt,” there should be a version number in parenthesis that will inform you if your TV supports 5.1 audio.
From LG to Samsung to Sony, all of the main TV brands in the market have models that enable 5.1 surround sound natively. Chromecast, as well as other Android TV, Google TV, and Roku devices are all compatible. Keep in mind that not all YouTube TV shows offer 5.1 surround sound, but if your device fits the requirements, you should get 5.1 audio anytime it’s available for the show you’re watching.
Google also revealed that it is working with partners to allow 5.1 audio on Apple TV, Fire TV, and gaming consoles, so expect this functionality to roll out to more devices soon.
