While you can now easily update your pair of AirPods to the latest firmware version using a Mac (running macOS Monterey 12.3 beta), there is still no easy way to know when the update is available or when it is downloaded, as it is triggered automatically, much like how it happens in iOS. That being said, it is still good news for people who do not own any other iOS device and are relying upon just their Mac.
Apple states that you simply need to connect your earbuds via Bluetooth to install the latest firmware updates. However, the current version of the firmware won’t be displayed on the Mac, as was the case with iPhone and iPad.
