After a long wait, Apple has finally launched the AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) during the ‘Far Out’ event. This is the same event where the company also unveiled the iPhone 14 series, Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch Ultra, and the Apple Watch SE (2022). The Apple AirPods Pro 2nd Generation replaces the three-year-old Apple AirPods Pro (1st Gen).
The new AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) packs in a new H2 wireless chip, low distortion sound drivers, an improved audio amplifier, Spatial Audio, improved ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) performance, more touch controls, Adaptive Transparency Mode, and up to 30 hours of battery life, among other features.
Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation): Features, Specifications
The Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) carry a similar design as its predecessor, with long stems and in-ear canal silicone tips. They are powered by a new H2 chip, coupled with low-distortion audio drivers and a custom audio amplifier for better audio quality. The new wireless earphones now support improved Spatial Audio. Apple says that the true-depth camera of an iPhone can be utilised to create a personalised Spatial Audio profile based on the shape and size of your ears.
Apple claims that the new AirPods Pro come with an updated ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) feature, which can cut the ambient noise by two times. Furthermore, the new Adaptive Transparency Mode detects and reduces any high decibel noise in your surroundings. This has been made possible by the H2 chip’s 48,000/second sampling rate.
The Apple AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) include two capacitive touch sensors on each earbud and adds touch-based gesture controls in this iteration. You can swipe up to raise volume or swipe down to lower it.
The new wireless buds come in a case that offers an option to attach a lanyard loop. It is also compatible with Apple’s Find My service that can be used to locate lost or stolen AirPods Pro. Thanks to UWB integration, the case features the Precision Finding feature. The case also features an integrated loudspeaker that plays high-pitch sounds to help you find it.
The new earbuds promise up to six hours of music playtime, which is about 33% longer than the older generation AirPods Pro. With the charging case, the battery backup goes up to a total of 30 hours. The case can be charged with a Lighting cable or wirelessly via an Apple Watch charger, a MagSafe charger, or any other Qi wireless charger.
