It’s been more than a year since the last iPad Air was unveiled. The iPad Air (fourth-generation), which was announced alongside the iPhone 12 series back in September 2020, is due for a refresh. Now, a new report by Mac Otakara claims that the upcoming Apple iPad Air (fifth-generation) will be announced alongside the iPhone SE (third-generation) sometime in Spring 2022.
The upcoming iPad Air will sport an A15 Bionic chip under the hood, as per claims made by Mac Otakara. The A15 Bionic chip will bring 5G connectivity to the table. To those in the dark, the iPad Mini (sixth-generation) is powered by Apple‘s in-house A15 Bionic chip.
In terms of design, Apple will not make any modifications to the newest device, which means that the upcoming iPad Air will look exactly same as its predecessor. The fifth-generation iPad Air is said to feature a 10.9-inch display panel with slim bezels. Apple might keep Face ID exclusive to iPad Pro models even in 2022, as the upcoming iPad Air is said to come with Touch ID embedded in the power button. Apple will reportedly offer the upcoming iPad Air (5th generation) in five colour options—Green, Sky Blue, Rose Gold, Silver, and Space Gray.

The report further claims that the iPad Air will be equipped with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle front camera. The front camera will also support the Center Stage feature, which the company had introduced with iPad Pro (2021). The new iPad Air 2022 model is said to offer a Quad-LED True Tone flash. It will reportedly offer a single-rear camera and a USB Type-C port.
Mac Otakara has a credible record when it comes to leaking Apple iPad-related news. Back in 2020, the folk at Mac Otakara had accurately reported that the iPad Air (fourth-generation) would make use of a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer.
As per Mark Gurman, the Cupertino-based tech giant will likely organise its first product launch event of the year sometime in March or April, so we may not have to wait for long to see what Apple has in store for its fans with the fifth-generation iPad Air and third-generation iPhone SE.
