The Apple iPhone 14 lineup was announced today during Apple’s ‘Far Out’ event. Apart from the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the company also launched the iPhone 14 Plus. It is a new variant in the iPhone lineup. It is essentially an Apple iPhone 14 but with a bigger, 6.7-inch display. And yes, the company has ditched the Mini variant from its 2022 iPhone lineup due to below-par sales.
The iPhone 14 Plus features last year’s A15 Bionic processor, a 6.7-inch OLED 60Hz display with a conventional notch, a dual-camera setup on the rear, and a big battery. Let’s have a look at what the iPhone 14 Plus brings to the table.

Apple iPhone 14 Plus: Features, Specifications
The Apple iPhone 14 Plus has a 6.7-inch OLED display with near Full HD+ resolution, a 60Hz refresh rate, 1,200 nits peak brightness, and Dolby Vision. The screen is protected by Ceramic Shield. The phone has received step-motherly treatment from Apple as it still features the conventional screen notch to house the Face ID system and the front-facing camera. Unlike the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the iPhone 14 Plus lacks a pill-shaped display cutout.
The rest of the iPhone 14 Plus’ design is similar to the 2021 iPhones, featuring an aluminium frame and a Ceramic Shield protection on the front and the rear. The phone is also IP68-certified for dust and water resistance.
In a very un-Apple fashion, the iPhone 14 Plus gets last year’s processor: A15 Bionic. It is the same 5nm processor that was used in the iPhone 13 series. However, it comes with a 5-core GPU for this year, which promises a performance uplift of 18% over the iPhone 13. Unfortunately, it misses out on the 4nm A16 processor that power the costlier iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Plus has 6GB RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB NVMe internal storage.
While Android manufacturers have started using 200MP cameras in their smartphones, Apple is still sticking with a 12MP primary camera for the iPhone 14 Plus, but with few tweaks. It is a larger sensor with 1.9µm pixels with an F1.5 aperture. The main camera also packs in Sensor-Shift OIS and dual-pixel autofocus that was seen in the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The 12MP ultrawide sensor is unchanged from before. Both rear-facing cameras can record up to 4K 60fps videos. At the front, the device features a 12MP selfie camera with an F1.9 aperture with capabilities of 4K 60fps video recording. This time, the selfie camera also gets autofocus.
A major addition to this year’s iPhone 14 series is the Emergency SOS Via Satellite feature, which allows you to send short messages where there’s no Wi-Fi or cellular network connectivity. However, the service will only be available in the US and Canada initially. The handset also gets a Crash Detection feature, which can alert your emergency contacts in the event of a car crash.
The connectivity features of the iPhone 14 Plus include GPS, 5G (sub-6GHz and mmWave), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, UWB, NFC, and a Lightning Port. The device features Apple Pay, too, but that’s limited to only a few markets. It is powered by a 4,325mAh battery and supports up to 27W fast charging, 15W MagSafe wireless charging, and 7.5W Qi wireless charging.
