ASUS has been on the onslaught of adding more laptops to its Chromebook lineup. Chromebooks provide more value, power, and battery efficiency, which is the reason why students prefer them more, at least the ones who have an always-active internet connection. Chromebooks run Google’s Chrome OS (Operating System) and provide access to Google’s suite of applications and even Android apps. Also, these laptops come with affordable price tags when compared to laptops running the Windows operating system. ASUS is looking to offer a wider range of Chromebook options with the addition of three new laptops: ASUS Chromebook CX1, ASUS Chromebook CR1, and ASUS Chromebook Flip CR1.

The laptop is fairly thin at 19.5mm and weighs just 1.24kg. The CX1 comes with the MIL-STD 810H certification that requires the laptop to go through rigorous tests such as panel pressure test, shock test, keyboard durability, drop test, keyboard spill-resistant test, and hinge test.
The laptop comes in two variants: Intel Celeron dual-core CPU and Intel Celeron quad-core CPU. It is equipped with up to 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM and up to 64GB of internal eMMC type storage. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth, two USB Type-A ports, two USB-C ports, a microSD card reader, a 720p webcam, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
Chromebook CR1 And CR1 Flip Features, Specifications
Both the ASUS Chromebook CR1 and the ASUS Chromebook CR1 Flip’s mainstay is its rugged exterior construction. These come with rubber bumper protection on all four sides and corners, which absorbs the shocks and protects its critical components. The top panel comes with a perforated like texture that prevents fingerprint smudges and scratches.
The laptops are built to surpass the US military-grade MIL-STD 810H certification and can withstand up to 120cm drops and come with a spill-resistant keyboard. Keeping hygiene is of paramount importance in these days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, these laptops come with anti-bacterial treatment on the keyboard, touchpad, and palm resting area to inhibit up to 99% of bacteria.
The differentiating aspects of the Chromebook CR1 Flip, when compared to the vanilla Chromebook CR1, is its 360-degree any position hinge and the stylus pen, with which you can make use of its 11.6-inch touchscreen. Another difference over the vanilla Chromebook CR1 is the secondary camera placed above its keyboard.
Both the laptops come in two variants, which are powered by either an Intel Celeron dual-core or an Intel Silver N6000 quad-core processor. These devices come equipped with up to 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM and up to 64GB of eMMC storage. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 6, 4G LTE support, two USB Type-A ports, two USB-C ports, a microSD card reader, a 720p webcam, and a 3.5mm audio jack. These laptops are powered by a 47WHr battery, which promises up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge.
ASUS Chromebook CX1, CR1, CR1 Flip Price, Availability
ASUS is yet to announce the pricing and details about its availability. Expect these to be priced very competitively like other ASUS Chromebooks when these hit the stores. However, in India, Chromebooks are not as cheap as they are in the US when compared to Windows laptops. Hence, they might not make as much sense to buy over Windows laptops.
