Last month, we reported that Ather Energy is gearing up to launch refreshed versions of its Ather 450X and Ather 450 Plus electric scooters. In a digital event on July 19, 2022, Ather Energy introduced its new 450x Gen 3 to the Indian audience. Unfortunately, it comes with the same bodywork as before, with minor tweaks to the rearview mirrors and a new set of shoes. The company focused on delivering what people needed the most, and that’s extended driving range. The new Ather 450X Gen 3 promises an ARAI-certified range of up to 146km.

The tyres are now MRF-branded and the vehicle gets a wider 100-section rear tyre for enhanced grip on the road. The company has added a side-step in this iteration, which should benefit kids and the elderly to hop on the scooter with ease. Ather is working toward making the side-step backward compatible with older Ather 450X and Ather 450 Plus EVs. This pretty much sums up the visual changes of the scooter.
Notably, the major changes have happened under the skin. Ather says it has utilised over 218 million kilometres of ride data from its existing electric scooters, combined with the feedback from its customers, in developing the new Ather 450X Gen 3. The old Ather 450X came with a 2.9kWh battery pack, which is now replaced by a 3.66kWh battery in the Ather 450X Gen 3. The 25 percent larger battery pack promises to deliver a real-world range of around 105km in Eco mode, up from the earlier 85km range. Ather says the thermal efficiency of the battery pack has also been improved by 20 percent, which would aid in stress-free riding in heavy traffic, hilly rides, or with a pillion on board.
The increase in battery capacity has resulted in a weight gain of about 4kg. To offset it, the electric scooter now churns out higher power output. The motor is now rated at 6.2kW peak output, compared to the previous 6kW. In terms of features, the new model retains the same 7-inch LCD screen powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 chipset. However, it is equipped with 2GB of RAM compared to 1GB in the previous iteration. This is expected to improve the responsiveness of the UI and will help in using offline maps, voice commands, diagnostics, running apps in the background, and other tasks more efficiently.
Ather 450X Gen 3: Price
Ather has also launched the updated Ather 450 Plus with a lower range alongside the Ather 450X Gen 3. The new Ather 450X Gen 3 with all the changes comes with a reasonable ₹5,000 hike over the older model. It comes in the same Space Grey, Mint Green, and white colourways. You can order the scooter right away and deliveries will commence in July 2022 itself.
