As per the most recent update available on the 5G launch in India, the spectrum auction may reportedly take place in early June this year. Once the government allocates the 5G spectrum, the leading private telcos will be all set to roll out the commercial 5G services by the end of this year. On the other hand, BSNL, the government-run telecom will reportedly launch the 5G services in 2023. The telco is still working on laying the 4G network across the country, hence the delay.
BSNL 5G Services To Be Launched In 2023
According to a new report by PTI, BSNL will launch its 5G services in India in 2023. For the current year, the company will be focusing on its 4G infrastructure. The state-run telco is reportedly planning on launching indigenous 4G networks in the country. In the wake of same, it has developed a native 4G core in partnership with the C-DoT (Centre for Development of Telematics) and TCS (Tata Consultancy Services).

Further, the state-run telco is said to go for indigenous 5G infrastructure as well. The company will be launching 5G over the 4G core, which means that it will utilize 5G NSA technology to launch 5G services in India. However, the company will need 4G infrastructure in order to achieve the same. Hence, it will focus on building its 4G infrastructure in the country in 2022.
The report further suggests that BSNL will first launch its 4G network in places such as Maharashtra and Kerala. By August 2022, the company will start testing 4G networks in four districts of Kerala. By the end of this year, we can expect the telco to have a country-wide 4G network, and in 2023, we might get to see BSNL 5G services in India.
