Support for Discord voice chats is finally coming to Xbox consoles. This means that you’ll finally be able to chat with your friends on Discord directly from your Xbox. This feature is first rolling out to those who have signed up for Microsoft’s Xbox Insider beta program.
With this update, users will be able to connect to their friend’s voice channels, allowing them to chat while gaming. Additionally, gamers will be able to easily switch between Discord Voice and Xbox game chat. Users will also be able to see who’s speaking, while gaming on the console.
Discord Voice Chat on Xbox Console: Getting Started
Setting up Discord voice chat isn’t as simple as downloading the Discord app on your console. First, you will have to link your Xbox Account to Discord. In case you had already linked it before to allow your Discord contacts to view your Gamertag, you’ll have to connect it again. To do so, you’ll have to navigate to Discord’s User Settings. Select the cog icon, head on over to “Connections” and choose the Xbox icon. Finally, follow the step-by-step instructions to link the accounts.
Next, you’ll have to press the Xbox button on your console to open the guide. Then, navigate to Parties & chats and select Try Discord Voice on Xbox. Once you scan your QR code, you will be taken to the Discord and Xbox apps to establish a link between both accounts. After the accounts are linked, you can select a channel just like you would on Discord.
Meanwhile, you’ll see a new Join on Xbox option on the Discord mobile app. You will need the Xbox app to migrate voice chat from your Discord account to your Xbox. The Xbox app will launch and allow you to link the Discord Voice chat with your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One console.
Discord Voice Chat on Xbox Console: Availability
The Discord voice chat feature is rolling out to select Xbox Insiders. Expect the roll out to expand over the coming weeks. However, Discord does not specify when voice chat will be available to all Xbox users. If testing goes smoothly, it could come to the public later this year.
