Fossil unveiled two new Gen 6 smartwatches—Fossil x Razer and Skagen Falster Gen 6—at CES 2022. The wearable brand also announced Alexa integration for its new smartwatches. Fossil confirmed that it would bring Alexa to its new smartwatches very soon.
Alexa integration will initially be limited to Fossil’s Gen 6 smartwatches, and we are not entirely sure whether its previous-gen watches will receive similar treatment. As a matter of fact, the new Gen 6 smartwatches from Fossil come preloaded with a Wear OS tile dedicated for Alexa. So far, tapping on the tile simply brings up the “Coming Soon” message.
Alexa Comes To Fossil’s Smartwatch Ecosystem
For now, only Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches—Fossil Gen 6, Fossil x Razer Watch, and Skagen Falster Gen 6—feature Alexa integration. The company has confirmed that owners of these smartwatches will be able to use Alexa in the first half of 2022. Though not officially confirmed, we can expect the brand’s older watches to receive the feature in the future.
Here’s what Fossil had to say about the development:
Alexa will be launching in the first half of this year on our Gen 6 devices, with opportunity to roll out on future devices. We’ll have more information closer to launch!
While Alexa integration is great, we are yet to receive any word from the brand when it comes to the Wear OS 3 update. The company has not shared anything about the Wear OS update and has merely reiterated Google’s original timeline of mid to late 2022 for the Wear OS 3 to arrive on its smartwatches. So, for those waiting for the latest Wear OS 3 on their Fossil watch, there appears to be quite some time left.
