The feature will come as a relief for people with a lot of queued downloads and notification alerts to track. A similar feature is already available to iOS users. With the recent update, tapping on the green “Install” button in the Play Store will open a black-and-white version of the requested app on your next open homescreen with a progress ring and “Downloading” label.
Once the downloading phase is complete, it starts installing the app and the full icon will appear. To cancel the download in progress, you can press the respective icon to access the Google Play listing directly and cancel it. The new feature only works for new app installs and not for updates that need to be installed from time to time.

The Google Play Store can still only download one app at a time, but “Pending” apps will be quickly added to the homescreen, though not in the main apps list. You can easily rearrange the icons the moment they appear. This will be useful for large downloads and slow internet connections.
The feature is said to be rolled out on Android 11+ devices, including both Pixel and Google phones. What do you think of this new app install progress feature in the Play Store? Do let us know in the comments section below.
