Following the public release of the iOS 15.3 and the iPadOS 15.3 yesterday, Apple has now released the first betas of iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 to developers. These new beta builds include major changes and a slew of new features. The updates bring in the Universal Control feature and allow users to use Face ID while wearing a mask. The latest iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 software update also includes new emojis, Apple card widgets, and a ton of new features.

Get the latest technology news, reviews, and opinions on tech products right into your inboxThe iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 software update is available to developers via over-the-air in the Settings app. The update allows iPhone and iPad users to use Face ID while wearing a mask. Apple claims that the feature can “recognize the unique features around the eye” for authentication purposes. If you want to enable this feature, you will need to rescan your face for Face ID. From Settings, you will have to select Use Face ID with mask. Do note that the feature is only available for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series.

This does mean that if you are using any older iPhone like iPhone X, iPhone XS series, or iPhone 11 lineup, you will have to rely on the old Face ID method. The new software release also brings in the much-awaited Universal Control feature which allows a single cursor and keyboard to control iPads and Macs. Furthermore, the update also includes 37 new emojis and 75 skin tone additions.
The new software update also brings the Apple Card widget in the Today view. Additionally, iPadOS 15.4 includes a Keyboard Brightness option which can be added to the Control Center. This new feature allows users to adjust the brightness of a connected keyboard with backlighting. There are other features available as well, which you can find on Apple’s release notes.
