Reliance Industries held its AGM (Annual General Meeting) today, where it announced its 5G network services for India. Marketed as the Jio True 5G, it will include a stand-alone 5G architecture, a broad spectrum, and advanced carrier aggregation tech.
Jio 5G Launch Date In India, Pan-India Coverage Timeline
The 5G internet services will roll out in major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai by Diwali 2022. It also plans to cover every town, tehsil, and taluka of the country by December 2023.
Jio has made a commitment of ₹2 lakh crore for this ambitious project of providing fast internet services to each and every corner of India. The company claims that Jio True 5G services will offer the best coverage, quality, and affordable 5G connectivity solutions in the country. It is based on a stand-alone architecture, which enables the 5G network to function without relying on the 4G network. This architecture also offers a low latency network, which will be beneficial to the user while gaming, consuming online content, video calling, etc.

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio, said, “Jio True 5G truly delivers breakthrough increases in broadband speed and dramatically lower latency.” Jio True 5G delivered internet speeds of around 1.09Gbps on a smartphone during the demonstration.
Jio 5G Spectrum In India
For those not in the know, Reliance Jio was the top spender at the recently concluded 5G spectrum auction in India. It bagged 24,740MHz 5G spectrum out of the total 72097.85MHz available on offer. The telco paid a sum of ₹88,078 crores for the spectrum spread across 700MHz, 800MHz, 1,800MHz, 3,300MHz, and 26GHz bands.
The company claims that its widespread Jio Fiber footprint, indigenously developed end-to-end 5G stack, and international alliances in the tech ecosystem will enable them to deploy faster than rivals.
