Reliance Jio’s 5G services will initially be available in four cities, as the Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom operator rolled out commercial trials for the next generation network on Tuesday. Reliance Jio announced the Jio True 5G Welcome Offer that will be available for users who receive an invite on a random basis in four cities across India. 5G services was launched officially by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 1 at the inaugural session of the India Mobile Congress, following which, Airtel and Jio have announced their public trials available for users in select areas.

In the aforementioned cities, the telco will offer 5G services with up to 1 Gbps+ speeds free of cost to existing users who receive an invite.
As mentioned before, the welcome offer is limited to users invited for the trial and is not open for all. The trial service of Jio True 5G will be released for other cities in a phased manner as the rollouts are completed. Jio said the Welcome Offer trial 5G service will continue till the telco is able to offer network coverage of a city substantially to provide the best coverage and user experience.
Users who are part of the Welcome offer will automatically get upgraded to Jio True 5G service without having to change their existing Jio SIM or 5G smartphone. Jio said it is working with all smartphone brands to enable support for its standalone 5G network.
Reliance Jio picked up the largest mix of spectrum to offer 5G services in the recently concluded 5G spectrum auction. The company owns significant spectrum across 700Mhz, 3300Mhz and 26GHz. On Thursday, Airtel also unveiled its 5G Plus service across select cities with trials open for select users.
