Microsoft Defender is now coming to Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices. While Microsoft’s Defender anti-virus suite has been included in Windows for a long time, the app will now come as a scaled down version designed to work across all platforms.
Microsoft Defender for individuals is rolling out to Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers. It is a simplified online security app that consolidates its features on a single dashboard. It will allow you to manage your security options right from the dashboard.

That is why we are introducing Microsoft Defender for individuals. It was built on our Microsoft Defender for Endpoint technology, leveraging the same trusted security that enterprises rely on.”
If you already have some antivirus installed on your device, the app will recognize and list them out. Moreover, the app will send out security alerts and tips to protect your data and devices. Do note that security tips are available only on Windows and macOS.
Microsoft Defender for Android can scan your device for malicious apps and offer antivirus protection. It will also protect you from web phishing by scanning your Android phone. On the other hand, Defender for iOS and iPadOS does not include antivirus protection. However, it offers protection from web phishing along with security alerts.
Jakkal adds that Microsoft is working on bringing more security features under a single dashboard. Expect functions such as protection from identity theft and secure online connection to roll out in the future.
