Earlier this month, Microsoft announced a host of gaming-centric features for its Edge browser. Now, the company is finally rolling out various functions including Clarity Boost, which is touted to improve Xbox Cloud Gaming streams. Moreover, the browser is getting an efficiency mode and a homepage comprising game-related content.
Let’s have a look at what the latest Microsoft Edge update has on offer.
Microsoft Edge Efficiency Mode
The latest Microsoft Edge update brings Efficiency mode, which will reportedly ensure that games run smoothly by cutting down on the browser’s resource usage. Browsers are notorious for consuming CPU resources, thus slowing down games when they are launched.
Microsoft claims that the new Efficiency mode on Windows 10 and 11 will ensure that you will be able to play games without having to close the browser. After you are done with the game, Microsoft Edge will automatically exit Efficiency mode and resume from where you left off. You can enable Efficiency mode for PC Gaming in your browser settings. You will find the option under the System and Performance Tab.
Clarity Boost For Xbox Cloud Gaming
Clarity Boost is Microsoft Edge-exclusive feature that promises to improve the Xbox streaming experience. Liat Ben-Zur, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s consumer services and software products explains, “Clarity Boost is a spatial upscaling enhancement that makes streaming games look clearer and sharper while playing in Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and 11. It uses a set of client-side scaling improvements to improve the visual quality of the video stream.”
Ben-Zur adds, “Clarity Boost allows you to enjoy the most advanced games on the market and experience amazing graphics right from Microsoft Edge whether you are on your high-end PC gaming rig or your tablet.”
New Microsoft Edge Homepage For Gamers
Microsoft Edge also gains a new homepage with the latest update. You can customise it according to your interests to include game-related news, live streams, game guides, game highlights, and more. That’s not all, the browser has a dedicated Games menu which offers a slew of free-to-play casual and arcade games such as Microsoft Solitaire, Microsoft Mahjong, Microsoft Jewel, and Microsoft Edge Surf Game. If you have an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you can play Xbox games directly from the browser.
