Microsoft has released a new version of Skype (version 8.78), which brings some improvements and a modern-looking UI to challenge other instant messaging and calling services. The update offers rounded corners, bug fixes, new colour elements, video/audio call optimisations, and more across all platforms such as Windows, Android, iOS, and the web.
Microsoft had announced a couple of months ago that it was working towards making Skype more modern-looking to attract more users. Microsoft claims, it has optimised Skype to perform 30% faster on PC, and over 2,000% faster on Android devices.
Skype Version 8.78 Features
The update fixes the screen sharing bug and brings enhanced sharing options. The new Skype UI (User Interface) design gets a modern-looking light theme with rounded corners, enhanced colour gradients, and tweaked elements that make the messages appear sharper. The new Skype also gets larger avatars and newly designed chat headers.
There are some visual changes to the calling interface, with some added convenience features to enhance the user experience. The update promises faster video rendering on mobile devices. The video feeds will carry a more natural tone and the participants (Display Image) will be displayed on the call screen even if they aren’t sharing the live feed.
Skype will get a new search bar and updated avatars on Android and iOS. Notifications appear at the bottom of the screen for clutter-free navigation. Skype on the Web is now accessible via an Android phone or tablet. Lastly, Microsoft says, “We wrapped some bugs in a rug and took them outside. Then we tidied up a bit.” So, you can expect a more fluid and bug-free experience with this new update of Skype across all platforms.
