OnePlus is reportedly rolling back the OxygenOS 12 update based on the Android 12 for its OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro smartphones. Reportedly, the company has received a lot of flak due to the buggy nature of the update. As a result, the company was left with no choice but to suspend the update to avoid further damage and frustration among the users.
OnePlus issued a statement to Android Police regarding the suspension of the OxygenOS for its OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, acknowledging the issues and assuring to push a bug-free build soon.
“We are aware of the issues caused by the OxygenOS 12 update and our software team is fixing them. We will suspend this software update and roll out a new iteration as soon as possible.”

It also assured that the OxygenOS 12 would be made available to other OnePlus devices like the OnePlus 9R, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8, OnePlus 7T Pro, OnePlus 7T, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 7, OnePlus Nord 2, OnePlus Nord CE, and OnePlus Nord in the first half of 2022. But after the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro update fiasco, it remains to be seen if the updates to the aforementioned devices would be delivered as per the schedule.
OxygenOS purists were enraged over OnePlus’ decision of merging it with Oppo’s ColorOS codebase. Although the company promised there wouldn’t be any visible changes to the UI and would provide the unadulterated OxygenOS experience, there are indeed some similarities with the ColorOS in some functions. Now, this bug-ridden update has left users wondering whether it could be due to the OS merger.
Adding to the confusion, there are reports that Samsung has stopped seeding its latest Android 12-based firmware update for its Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, after receiving negative feedback from users. This could also mean that there’s an underlying issue with Google’s latest Android 12 OS. There’s nothing conclusive at this point to determine the root cause of the issue. OnePlus users have no option but to wait till the next update and hope that the bugs are ironed out.
Major OS updates are usually plagued with bugs and glitches. Moreover, there have been instances of reduced performance and battery efficiency while jumping to the new Android OS. It is advisable to stay on the factory provided version if it’s working without any hiccups. However, if you are a sucker for new features and security updates, you can wait till the reviews of the desired update are out before you take the plunge.
