OnePlus has announced the OnePlus 9R Android 12 (OxygenOS 12) Open Beta program. The brand took to the OnePlus Community forum to make a formal announcement for the same. The company has already rolled out the Android 12 stable update for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. Let us take a closer look at the new features and changes that the Android 12 update brings to the OnePlus 9R.

The OnePlus 9R OxygenOS 12 update comes with an array of new features including Shelf Improvements, Canvas AOD improvements, an all-new Dark Mode, and Work-Life Balance 2.0. Take a look at the official changelogs,

System
● Optimized desktop icons with improved textures, by using a design inspired by brand-new materials and uniting lights and layers

Dark mode
● Dark mode now supports three adjustable levels, bringing a more personalized and comfortable user experience

Shelf
● New additional style options for Cards, making data contents more visual and easier to read
● Newly added Earphone Control Card with Bluetooth earphone one-click adjustment
● Newly added access to OnePlus Scout in Shelf, allowing you to search multiple contents on your phone, including Apps, Settings, Media Data, etc
● Newly added OnePlus Watch Card in Shelf, to easily glance at your health stats

Work Life Balance
● Work Life Balance feature is now available to all users, allowing you to effortlessly switch between Work and Life mode via quick settings
● WLB 2.0 now supports automatic Work/Life mode switching, based on specific locations, Wi-Fi network, and time, also bringing customized App notification profiles according to the personalization

Gallery
● Gallery now allows you to switch between different layouts with a two-finger pinch gesture, intelligently recognizing the best-quality pictures, and cropping the thumbnail based on the content, making the gallery layout more pleasing

Canvas AOD
● Canvas AOD brings you new diverse styles of lines and colors, for a more personalized lock screen experience with inspiring visuals
● Newly added multiple brushes and strokes and support for color adjustment
● Optimized software algorithm and improved face recognition to better identify the features and skin color of different figures

OnePlus 9R OxygenOS 12 Open Beta Update: How to Install

In case you wish to upgrade your OnePlus 9R to Android 12, you need to follow the below-mentioned procedure,

• Download the firmware upgrade file
• Copy the downloaded file to the phone storage.
• Now head over to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Click top right icon -> Local upgrade -> Click on the downloaded file -> Upgrade -> System upgrade
• After the process is completed, click Restart.

In case you’re planning to update your OnePlus 9R to the OxygenOS 12 Open Beta, you should note that some third-party apps may not work after updating to Android 12. However, that happens only in if the app developers haven’t adapted their apps to the latest Android version. Also, make sure that your handset has at least 3GB free internal storage and at least 30 percent battery is left on your device.

OnePlus will also allow users to roll back to the OxygenOS 11 in case they’re not happy with the performance or the battery life after updating. However, downgrading to Android 11 will erase complete user data stored on the device.
