OPPO is gearing up for the launch of the upcoming smartwatch dubbed the OPPO Watch 3 later this month. This upcoming wearable from the company has been in the news over the last couple of months. The new wearable will be arriving as a successor to the Watch 2 which OPPO debuted last year.
Now, ahead of the official launch, OPPO has started sharing teasers of the upcoming OPPO Watch 3. As per the recent teaser shared by the Chinese smartphone maker, the OPPO Watch 3 will make use of the newly launched Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 SoC.
OPPO Watch 3 Confirmed To Feature Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 SoC
The OPPO Watch 3 will be the first product in the world to utilise the new Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 SoC. To recall, while announcing this new chipset, Qualcomm had earlier revealed that OPPO’s upcoming smartwatch will make use of its new wearable SoC. However, the name of the wearable was not mentioned at the time.
When it comes to the specifications, the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 series offers 2X higher performance, 2X richer features, and 30 percent smaller size compared to the Snapdragon Wear 4100+ SoC. The chipset is made using the 4nm process and utilizes 4x Arm Cortex-A53 cores and Cortex-M55 core for AI/ML tasks.
Unfortunately, OPPO has not shared the launch date of the OPPO Watch 3. Past reports suggest that the Watch 3 will arrive in three models, and some of the variants will feature a high screen-to-body ratio and support eSIM. On the software side of things, the Watch 3 will run ColorOS Watch operating system. Apart from OPPO, Mobvoi will also feature the Snapdragon W5+ Wearable Platform in its upcoming TicWatch smartwatches which are scheduled to arrive this fall.
