OSOM Products, a brand created by ex-Essential employees, has released some information on their upcoming products via Twitter. The brand is already working on a privacy-focused smartphone, dubbed the ‘OV1’, that is set to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series processor, which could be anything from Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 to the rumoured Gen 1 Plus or even the Gen 2. Although the phone has already been delayed for quite a while, it is now slated to launch by the end of 2022.

This switch lets users toggle between charging-only and data transfer modes, an innovative feature that we haven’t yet seen on such a product. OSOM will also be selling this cable separately, and is touted to work with other smartphones as well. Smartphone users will be able toggle the feature to share data or just charge the device. Additionally, having a physical button on the cable to cut off data pins will serve as an added security measure.
OSOM OV1 Features
Apart from this, OSOM also showcased the design of the OV1 smartphone, and revealed it will have Gorilla Glass Victus on the front, a zirconia ceramic back, and a stainless steel frame. The brand further added that the phone will have a 48MP+12MP dual rear camera setup along with a 16MP front-facing shooter.
Other features include a large full-day use battery, dual SIM support, UWB support, and fast charging. There is still no word on which Android version the phone will run on out of the box. Reports suggest that it could be Android 12 or the Android 12L build. Also in limbo is the number of software updates the phone will get. It could be capped at three Android version updates and four years of security updates, or even more.
