Panasonic has launched its new box-style camera, the LUMIX BS1H, which is a successor to the LUMIX BGH1 that was launched last year. The BGH1 was the company’s first attempt at a box-styled production camera and it was quite successful, especially in reality TV shows. The LUMIX BS1H takes it one step further by incorporating the goodness of the full-frame Panasonic LUMIX S1H shooter and packing it in a compact, cube-shaped body. What it misses out on in comparison with the S1H is that it has no built-in screen, EVF, in-body stabilisation, or grip. This provides it with a much lighter footprint as it weighs just a shade under 600g, which would make it easier to operate on gimbals than the full-frame S1H. As with all such box-style cameras, it is modular and comes with ports and accessory-mounting threads to add whatever suits your needs. Panasonic looks to target cinema professionals and streamers with its new offering.
