Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Huawei have confirmed to launch their smartphones driven by the latest MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset in Q1 of 2022. Oppo and Xiaomi have spilled the beans about their specific smartphone range, while Vivo and Huawei haven’t disclosed the details yet. MediaTek may be the first to announce the world’s first 4nm chipset, but Qualcomm beat it to put its first Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered smartphone in the market, the Motorola X30 Edge. Now, with confirmations from some of the major manufacturers coming in, we could see the first Dimensity 9000 powered smartphone to go sale only in 2022.
Lu Weibing, Xiaomi VP and General Manager at Redmi, confirmed that the Redmi K50 series will have a Dimensity 9000 version. We believe it could be the the Redmi K50 Gaming that will succeed the Redmi K40 Gaming that came with a Dimensity 1200 SoC under its hood. The Redmi K40 Gaming was launched as the Poco F3 GT in India, so expect its successor to be named the Poco F4 GT.

It is speculated that the standard variant of the next generation Find X4 will be powered by the Dimensity 9000, while the Pro variant may come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Oppo has favoured the MediaTek chipsets for its devices in the recent past, and it wouldn’t be surprising if it plonks the Dimensity 9000 in its upper-midrange smartphones like the Reno series.
MediaTek has been doing exceedingly well recently, whether it is the budget, mid-range or the upper mid-range chipsets. With the Dimensity 9000, they are taking it a bit further by making use of the latest ARM cores and the latest Mali GPU available. It is set to be one of the most powerful mobile processors in 2022. Its leaked Antutu benchmarks on an unspecified device suggest a score of over a million, which is on par with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1’s leaked score. Things are surely going to get heated up in 2022 if only these two chipsets don’t take it literally.
