Reliance Jio to partner with Itel for an affordable smartphone

Reliance Jio will soon sign an exclusive partnership with Itel, claims a new report from 91Mobiles. According to the publication, the two companies will jointly launch an “extremely affordable” smartphone in the Indian market. This upcoming smartphone is said to be targeted towards first-time smartphone buyers staying in rural areas who are looking to upgrade from a feature phone to a smart device. Currently, there is no information regarding the specifications, price, or availability of the allegedly upcoming smartphone from Reliance Jio and Itel. The partnership between the two companies is said to take place in May.

Itel is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer and it is known for offering affordable smartphones and feature phones in India. Whereas, Reliance Jio is a telecom giant which is popular for its affordable cellular plans in the country. Going by these facts, 91Mobiles speculates that Itel might develop an affordable smartphone and Reliance Jio will offer special cellular plans for it so that people can get a smartphone experience at a budget. The publication also suggests that the Itel smartphone could be sold through the online and offline stores from Reliance Jio.

Reliance Jio and Google might launch a 5G phone

Itel isn’t the only company that Reliance Jio might be working with to bring new smartphones to the market. Recently, people familiar with RIL suggested that Reliance Jio is working with Google to launch an affordable 5G-enabled smartphone in the Indian market. The two companies are said to complete the R&D of the device in May or June this year. The launch of this 5G smartphone is said to take place in the second quarter of 2021.

Reliance Jio is preparing to launch the 5G cellular service in India. The 5G network from the company is expected to attract many people to the Reliance Jio network. With an affordable 5G smartphone, the telecom giant might be able to increase its subscriber base even further.
