Earlier this month, Samsung had launched the Galaxy A52s 5G in India. The new Galaxy A-series smartphone is an improved version of the Samsung Galaxy A52 that was launched in the country a few months ago. It comes packed with the all-new Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G processor that adds 5G compatibility. Moreover, this time around, the company has decided to go with a 120Hz refresh rate display compared to the 90Hz display on the regular Galaxy A52. We recently got our hands on the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G retail unit, and here are our first impressions of the smartphone. We’ve including the unboxing experience and Galaxy A52s 5G benchmark scores in the article.

Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G: Design, Build Quality
The Galaxy A52s 5G looks just like any other mid-range smartphone from Samsung. It borrows the design from its siblings, the Galaxy A52 and the Galaxy A52 5G. On the front, there is a bezel-less Super AMOLED Infinity-O display with a sizeable chin and a centred-punch-hole-shape cutout for the selfie camera.
The right edge of the smartphone houses the volume and power buttons. The 3.5mm headphone jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and speaker grills are located on the bottom edge of the phone. The top edge of the Galaxy A52s is where you’ll find the secondary noise cancellation microphone along with the hybrid dual-SIM card tray that accommodates two nano-SIM cards or a microSD card and a nano-SIM card.
Moving on to the back of the phone, it features a protruding rectangular camera island that resides on the top left corner. The camera housing blends in with the matte finish and results in a unibody look. The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is one of the few devices in the segment to come with a full plastic build which is a bummer considering that some rival brands are offering a metal-and-glass sandwich design in the same price segment. However, the Galaxy A52s 5G has one important trick up its sleeve: IP68 rating. Yes, the smartphone is resistant to dust and water (up to 1.5 metres deep inside water for up to 30 minutes).
Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G: Display
The handset features a large 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. The display panel on the Galaxy A52s 5G can go as bright as 800nits in certain situations. While that’s not as high as some high-end phones, it is plenty bright to be used under direct sunlight as well. The display also houses the optical in-display fingerprint sensor. The 32MP selfie camera is placed inside a punch-hole-shaped display cutout.
Samsung Galaxy A52s: Processor, and Benchmarks
The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G processor. It is the best chipset in the 7xx series (as of September 2021). The Snapdragon 778G has four ARM Cortex-A78-based Kryo 670 CPU and ARM Cortex-A55-based Kryo 670 Silver CPU cores. It is built using TMSC’s 6nm fabrication process, which means it is as power-efficient as 5nm chips made using Samsung’s 5nm EUV process. The Snapdragon 778G chipset has the Adreno 642L GPU, which is powerful enough to play many high-end games at smooth frame rates.
There is 6GB/8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 internal storage. However, users have an option to expand the storage (up to 1TB) via a microSD (hybrid) card slot. We ran Antutu (v9) and Geekbench 5 benchmarks on the Galaxy A52s 5G (6GB RAM variant). Take a look at the scores in the screenshots below.
Readers must note that these are mere benchmark scores, and real-life performance should not be judged based on these numbers. We will be using the handset extensively over the next few weeks and let you know about the real-world performance in our detailed review.
Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G: Cameras
Similar to every other mid-range handset, the Galaxy A52s 5G offers a quad-rear-facing camera setup. The primary camera uses a 64MP sensor with an F1.8 aperture and OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). It is accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide camera (123-degree field-of-view) and an F2.2 aperture. The other two sensors are a 5MP depth sensor and a 5MP macro camera. Both 5MP cameras have an F2.4 aperture.
Moving on to the front, the handset gets a 32MP shooter with an F2.2 aperture. The primary shooter on the Samsung Galaxy A52s is capable of 4K videos at 30 frames per second. Talking about slow-motion videos, the smartphone can record them at a 240fps frame rate and 720p resolution.
Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G: Battery and Charging
The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is equipped with a 4,500mAh battery, which should easily last a typical working day. But, don’t forget to factor in the high refresh rate power-hungry 120Hz display. The handset features a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfers. It is a USB 2.0 port (similar to other mid-range and value flagship smartphones), so do not keep your expectations very high.
The Galaxy A52s 5G supports 25W fast charging, but don’t get too excited already. Samsung is doing some cost-cutting here as the company is bundling just a 15W charging brick with a USB Type-A port. For context, the company provided a 25W USB Type-C charging adapter with the Galaxy M31s, which is significantly cheaper compared to the Galaxy A52s 5G.
Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G: Price
The Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G is priced at ₹35,999 for the 6GB RAM + 128GB variant. The 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant costs ₹37,499, buyers can get an instant ₹3,000 discount while purchasing the handset using an HDFC Bank credit card. This brings the Galaxy A52s 5G price down to just ₹32,999.
Can I play Call Of Duty Mobile or BGMI on the Galaxy A52s 5G? How capable are its cameras? How is the phone’s battery life? How long does it take to charge from 0-100% with the bundled 15W charger? We will answer all these questions in our detailed Samsung Galaxy A52s review in the next few days.
