Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is probably the hottest commodity in the smartphone world right now. The internet is flooded with leaks and rumours surrounding this upcoming flagship smartphone. Now that the launch is imminent, Samsung had teased an event scheduled for January 11, 2022, which it eventually scrapped. The company was expected to unveil the much-awaited Exynos 2200 chipset with an AMD RDNA 2 GPU. But this no-show from the South Korean giant, led industry pundits and tipsters to speculate the reasons behind it.

Get the latest technology news, reviews, and opinions on tech products right into your inboxDohyun Kim, a leakster from Samsung’s home country, stated that the Samsung S22 Ultra smartphone will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset for the US, Europe, and Korean markets. Popular leakster, Ice Universe, also shared a tweet suggesting that the Exynos 2200 might be postponed and Samsung may plonk the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for the international variant.
The leakster also expressed his excitement while sharing the tweet. This is primarily because Samsung’s self-developed Exynos processors are often criticised for their performance, especially when it comes to gaming. Samsung’s flagships are usually powered by Snapdragon processors for the US markets while the European and Indian units are powered by Exynos processors. When pitted against each other in benchmarks and in real-life usage, the Snapdragons have always annihilated the Exynos versions. But if these reports are to be believed then we may see a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in India as well.
Samsung Shooting Down The Rumours
Samsung announced in 2019 that it is developing a new chipset that will come with an AMD-developed GPU. In 2021 it was confirmed to power the Samsung S22 series. Samsung was bullish about the AMDs RDNA 2 GPU to solve all its gaming-related issues. Fans were excited to see how it fares against its Qualcomm and MediaTek rivals. But, Samsung’s scrapping of an event and then a barrage of tweets from tipsters came as a dampener for some. However, there’s a ray of hope as Samsung instantly came out and gave a statement to a Korean publication that the new chipset is very much on track to make its way into the Galaxy S22 series, refuting Ice Universe’s and Dohyun Kim’s claims.
Tipsters from Korea report that Samsung may launch the Galaxy S22 Ultra at an Unpacked event on February 8. In a country like India, where import duties are higher, Samsung may look to incorporate its own developed Exynos processor to keep the price in check. However, if the chipset isn’t ready for some reason and if the tipster’s claims turn out to be true, then get ready to witness the very hot nature of the Snapdragon.
