Apple’s Shazam quietly launched a Chrome extension for the app, a nifty tool for identifying songs. Going by the reviews on the Chrome Web Store, the extension seems to have released near the end of 2021. However, some users reported that the extension was broken.
The Shazam Chrome extension could help you identify the song on the browser itself, without having to fumble around with your phone. It can be downloaded from the Chrome Web Store and pinned just like your regular browser extensions. On installing the free extension, you can view it in the Chrome extension’s dropdown menu. Clicking on it opens a pop-up that prompts you to “Click to Shazam”. Shazam will then listen to the song that’s playing in the current tab of Chrome to identify the music.

However, some of the reviews on the Chrome Web Store claim that the Shazam extension isn’t working at all. Other users said that it worked fine. It appears that the roll out had some bugs and may have been a half-baked release, seeing the mixed user reviews. And the fact that Shazam has only acknowledged the existence of the Chrome extension on its website and Android app update listing seems to cement the theory of an incomplete product.
The Shazam Chrome extension isn’t the only desktop app available out there. Shazam is available as a standalone macOS app and a web app is also in the works.
Is the Shazam Chrome extension working for you? Let us know in the comments.
