The Signal app is now updated with a feature to keep current conversations even after changing the registered phone number. The update was long-awaited by the users of this instant messaging app. The feature was rolled out on Monday, and finally lets people switch to a new number without worrying about losing their chats or important messages.

With this new update to the app, they can find their old conversations intact even after switching to a new number. Before the update, users would lose their Signal conversations after switching to a new number. The reason being that all Signal conversations are end-to-end encrypted and are linked to the users’ phone numbers without being synchronized in the cloud.

With the latest Signal update, users can now keep their profile, including all the existing messages and groups.
If you’re keeping your existing phone, but getting a new number, the Change Number feature will let you keep your profile and all of your existing messages and groups on your device, while making you reachable at your new phone number.
To change your phone number in your Signal account, you will need access to both the old and the new phone number. To confirm the change, you must have the old number enabled on Signal. Finally, you can update your account and the same will be notified to your Signal contacts.
The Signal users will need version 5.27.1 on iOS and version 5.30.6 on Android in their devices to get the Change Number option. You can download the latest version of Signal app for free on the App Store and the Google Play Store.
