Sony has introduced its WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones as a successor to the WH-1000XM4 headphones. These headphones bring some improvements over their predecessor, but at a higher price. The WH-1000XM5 packs in new drivers, Active Noise Cancellation, an ergonomic design, and a very good battery backup, among other features.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 sports 30mm drivers that come with improved sound quality and high-frequency response compared to its predecessor. The headphones support wired and wireless audio input. It comes with four microphones on each side and two processors to control them. They come with an integrated V1 processor and a QN1 processor, which the brand claims will provide an excellent noise cancelling quality.
Moving over to its build, the headphone are made of a carbon fibre composite material, which makes it lightweight but tough, which increases the sound output at high frequencies. They come with premium lead-free solder made of gold that offers very good conductivity. It uses a good quality sound resistor and optimised circuits for a consistent sound.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones come with Bluetooth v5.2 and support SBC, AAC, and LDAC codecs. Owing to its Multipoint connection support, you can pair two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. Furthermore, it gets Windows Swift Pair and Google Fast Pair support.
Other noteworthy features include DSEE Extreme upscaling, Adaptive Sound Control, Precise Voice Pickup, ambient noise mode, gesture control, and Alexa/ Google Assistant support. The headphones promise up to 40 hours of playback with ANC off and up to 30 hours of playtime with ANC on. It can be fast charged via a USB Type-C PD charger and can offer up to three hours of playtime.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 is priced at $400 (approx. ₹31,000) in the US. They come in black and silver colourways.
