Sony has introduced its latest flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia 5 IV, in its home country Japan. The Xperia 5 IV is a fourth-generation model in the Xperia series and is a successor to the Sony Xperia 5 III, which was launched last year. It gets a familiar design and promises massive improvements over its predecessor by including a Qualcomm flagship mobile processor. Let’s have a look at what it brings to the table.
Sony Xperia 5 IV: Features, Specifications
The overall design of the Sony Xperia 5 IV is unmistakably Sony, as it comes with a thick top and bottom bezel. The rear design also feels familiar, with the vertically stacked triple camera lenses. The smartphone is 155.74mm tall and 67.1mm wide. That makes it slightly shorter and less wide than its predecessor. The handset gets a premium-looking metal frame with flat sides, which enhances its appeal. The volume rockers, the fingerprint sensor embedded power button, and the camera shutter key are placed at the right-hand side of the device. There’s a 3.5mm audio jack at the top, while the USB Type-C port and the SIM tray sit at the bottom of the handset.
The device sports a 6.1-inch OLED panel with 1080×2520 pixels resolution and a 120Hz screen refresh rate. Sony claims that the new display is 50 percent brighter than its predecessor. The device gets Gorilla Glass Victus protection on the front and back.

This comes as a bummer since rival brands have products with the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset lined up.
In terms of optics, it gets a triple camera setup comprising a 12MP 16mm 1/2.5-inch ultrawide, a 12MP 24mm 1/1.7-inch wide with 1.8um pixels and OIS, and a 12 MP 60mm 1/3.5-inch telephoto with OIS. The telephoto shooter can zoom in 2.5x. Selfie and video calling duties are handled by the 12MP 24mm f/2.0 lens.
For an enhanced audio-video experience, the handset packs in stereo speakers, Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio, DSEE Ultimate, and 360 Reality Audio. The Sony Xperia 5 IV comes with an IP68-rated body for dust and water resistance. The brand claims that it has managed to cram in a 10 percent bigger, 5000mAh battery in this iteration. It comes with a 30W PD fast charging support and wireless charging feature.

The Xperia 5 IV will be available from mid-September in Europe for €1,049 and $999 (approx. ₹79,500) in the US. It comes in green, black, and Ecru White colour options.
