Ross Young, an industry display analyst, suggests that the 2022 iPhone 14 standard models are set to miss Apple’s ProMotion display technology. Like the current iPhone 13 series, the iPhone 14 too will get the adaptive screen refresh rate feature only in the higher variants. The iPhone 13 Pro models come with 120Hz adaptive refresh rates, which can go as low as 10Hz depending on the content. This feature makes the display energy efficient. Currently, this feature is reserved for iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPad Pro, and 14/16-inch MacBook Pro models.
Talking about the display manufacturer, currently, Samsung supplies LTPO OLED displays for iPhone 13 Pro models. There were reports that LG will be in the mix as one of the suppliers of LTPO OLED displays. Now, Young says that BOE, a display manufacturer from China will be supplying OLED displays for the non-Pro models of the iPhone 14. This would be a bummer if the standard iPhone 14 gets a non-adaptive refresh rate screen. At least, it should get a high refresh rate of 120Hz, which would be a step up from the 60Hz display of the iPhone 13. Gamers are restricted to playing popular games like PUBG/ BGMI at 60 fps on the standard iPhone 13, which runs at 90fps on the Pro and Pro max variants.

The hole punch will carry the Face ID Dot projector whereas the pill-shaped cutout will house the front camera. The camera residing inside the hole punch will not be an in-display type. The higher iPhone 14 variants will sport a large 6.7-inch display, while the standard variants are believed to come with 6.1-inch displays. There won’t be an iPhone 14 mini with a 5.4-inch display this time around.
