With everyone across the world currently concerned about staying hygienic and germ-free, it’s important that you also remember to keep your gadgets clean. There’s no way one would forget to sanitize their hands after touching an object but what about your gadgets that you use on a daily basis?
Smartphones, laptops, tablets, cameras and headphones are most commonly used but they’re usually the last thing we think about when it comes to hygiene. We’ve all been hearing that washing our hands for a minimum of 20 seconds with hot, soapy water is the simplest way to stay clean, but what about your devices?
Read on for tips on how to sanitize your gadgets and keep them clean…
Smartphone
Sanitize your phone daily using a clean tissue or a clean dry cloth to remove any dirt or fingerprints and keep it covered in the phone case for as long as possible. You can also use a slightly damp lint-free cloth to wipe your device and screen clean. But do not use harsh chemicals directly on the phone screen or it can leave the phone damaged. Use cotton buds to clean the ports and do not forget to also sanitize your phone case or cover. Make sure it’s thoroughly dry before you put it back on.

However, “Don’t use bleach. Avoid getting moisture in any openings, and don’t submerge your iPhone in any cleaning agents.”
Laptop
Since we spend a fair amount of our day working on it, it’s important that you disinfect your laptop too by cleaning the laptop, screen and keypad with a clean dry cloth. Another way to keep your laptop free from germs is to unplug and turn off the laptop and clean it with a mix of some alcohol and water in a cup. Dip a microfiber cloth in it, squeeze and properly wipe the device. Lastly, ensure there’s no dust or crumbs in between the keys by cleaning it using a compressed air can.
Tablet & Headphone
Not to forget tablets and headphones. If you regularly use your tablet or headphones for watching videos or playing games for hours at a stretch, do keep your tablet and headphones clean too. In fact, we would suggest you to go hands-free, if possible as headphone wires easily get dirty when kept in the bag. At least, earpods can be safely kept in the box.
Digital Camera
As far as digital cameras are concerned, avoid letting friends use your camera as much as possible or ensure they wash their hands before and after using the camera and keep it clean. Just like phones and laptops, cameras too can be kept sanitized using a clean dry microfibre cloth. Min Cream is good too and can be used to clean the camera body. It’s non-hazardous with a multi-purpose use and is easily available at hardware stores or online. For the lens, you can use a dry microfiber cloth to get rid of dust and fingerprints.
