The Xiaomi 12 series has been unveiled globally. The lineup comprises three smartphones—the Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro and the 12X. These new smartphones feature a Full-HD+ AMOLED panel and are powered by top of the line Snapdragon chipsets.
The Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro are scheduled to get three major OS updates and four years of security patches, although there’s no confirmation for the 12X. Let’s take a closer look at the Xiaomi 12 series’ update situation and what we know so far.
Xiaomi 12 Series Update Policy Revealed
For the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro, Xiaomi promises three Android OS updates and four years of Android security patches. Both the Xiaomi 12 and the 12 Pro run Android 12 based MIUI 13 and are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The Snapdragon 870-powered 12X, on the other hand, did not receive such a commitment.
Xiaomi also includes a two-year warranty, which is standard in certain but not all regions of the world. Additionally, within the first six months of purchase, customers can get a free screen replacement. It’s worth noting that the Xiaomi 12 Pro comes with an international warranty, which means that a phone purchased in one region can be serviced in any of Xiaomi’s other supported nations.
The Xiaomi 12 series is available in three colour options—gray, purple, and blue. Customers purchasing any of the three Xiaomi 12 models also get a bundled three months of YouTube Premium for free, allowing you to watch videos without ads and download them for offline use. The subscription also includes YouTube Music Premium.
The Xiaomi 12 is priced at $750/€800 for the base 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage, the 12 Pro begins at $1,000/€1,000 for the 8GB + 256GB storage variant, while the lower end 12X costs $650/€700 for an 8GB + 128GB unit. The company also introduced the Xiaomi Watch S1, S1 Active and the Xiaomi Buds 3T Pro at its event.
