The Nubia Z40 Pro, a one-of-a-kind smartphone that comes with a feature akin to Apple’s Magsafe, has been announced by ZTE. With Apple’s introduction of the MagSafe charger with the iPhone 12, magnetic wireless charging on smartphones became ubiquitous. Wireless charging technology such as MagSafe has been demonstrated by smartphone manufacturers in the past, but the ZTE phone is the first Android device to be available for purchase.
Let’s take a closer look at the ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro, its specifications, features and pricing.
ZTE Nubia Z40 Pricing, Availability
The ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro is priced at CNY3,399 for the base variant with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. The phone is available in two colour options—black and silver. The Gravity Edition starts at CNY4,299 and has 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. There’s no information on the global availability of the smartphone yet.
ZTE Nubia Z40 Features
The ZTE Nubia Z40 Pro flaunts a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. Under the hood, the latest ZTE smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s fastest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
ZTE has packed in three rear camera modules—a 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor with a 1/1.3 sensor size paired with an f/1.6 7P lens with OIS. The sensor shoots 16MP images with 4-to-1 binning by default. The secondary shooter is a 50MP ultrawide camera coupled with an 8MP periscope telephoto shooter with 5x optical zoom. Additionally, there’s a 16MP sensor on the front.
The only variant with magnetic charging capabilities is the limited “Gravity Edition”, which has a smaller 4,600mAh battery and supports 66W fast charging through the cable. This is the first Android phone with a magnetic charging base similar to the MagSafe on the iPhone. The Z40 Pro is also available in a regular version with a 5,000mAh battery and faster 80W cable charging, but no magnets in the rear.
The phone runs MyOS 12, ZTE’s custom skin based on Android 12 out of the box. Connectivity options on the phone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a USB 3.1 Type-C connector, NFC and an under-display fingerprint scanner.
