Smartphone manufacturers have been playing the numbers game in terms of camera sensors for quite some time now. Quad camera or triple rear camera setups usually have two functional or only one camera working at times. In most cases, the secondary ultrawide shooter is a mediocre 8MP unit, where it should be 12MP at least to produce good quality shots. Things appear to be changing now, as we recently saw the Nothing Phone (1) opting for two high-quality sensors instead of just slapping on quad-cameras for the spec sheet.
According to a report by The Elec, Samsung is also jumping on the bandwagon of eliminating useless camera sensors from its upcoming devices. It is said to be working on its new A-series of smartphones, which are slated to go into production in 2023. Reportedly, the lineup will include three devices—the Samsung Galaxy A24, Samsung Galaxy A34, and Samsung Galaxy A54. These will be mid-range smartphones and will join the others in its A-series lineup. Samsung is mulling over removing the depth sensor from the aforementioned devices. Let’s have a look at their expected camera configurations below.

Samsung Galaxy A24, Galaxy A34, Galaxy A54: Camera Configurations (Rumoured)
The Samsung Galaxy A24, Galaxy A34, and Galaxy A54 could launch with triple rear cameras instead of quad-cameras. Some might call it cost-cutting, but in Samsung’s defence, it intends to improve the camera output of the three cameras that would be offered. Whether these would be new high-quality sensors or just some software wizardry, remains to be seen.
According to the report, the Samsung Galaxy A24 will be equipped with a 50MP primary camera. It will be accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide shooter and a 5MP macro camera.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy A54 is expected to feature a 50MP primary sensor coupled with a 5MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro sensor. Strangely, they opted for a lower spec ultrawide sensor on a device that is likely to be costlier compared to the other two handsets.
The information on these three A-series of devices is scarce at the moment. The report states that the Samsung Galaxy A34 may launch in March 2023, while the Samsung Galaxy A54 will be introduced in April 2023.
