ASUS ROG Phone 6 Powered By Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 To Break Cover On July 5

Asus has revealed the launch date of its upcoming gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 6. It will be an online event and will be held on July 5, 2022. Shortly after Qualcomm announced its flagship Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset last month, Asus confirmed that its next-generation gaming smartphone will be getting the new processor. Moreover, it will be one of the first smartphones to debut with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. 

Asus ROG Phone 6: Design, Features

The Asus ROG Phone 6 is likely to carry a similar design to the Snapdragon prototype device, which was built to provide the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 experience to reviewers. It came with a translucent back panel and a “Designed By ROG Lab” branding. The horizontal camera island on the prototype device is another ROG phone highlight which may make it into production. Leaked 2D renders of the ROG Phone 6 are also identical to the Snapdragon prototype device. This gives us a fair idea about the design of the upcoming ROG device. 

The ROG Phone 6 is confirmed to be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. Qualcomm has switched to TSMC’s 4nm fabrication process for its new chipset from the previous Samsung 4nm node of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The new processor is said to be more powerful and at the same time more energy-efficient compared to its predecessor. Although Asus hasn’t shared any details of the device, expect it to arrive with an improved cooling tech to keep its thermals in check. 

Being a gaming focussed smartphone, the ROG Phone 6 will feature a large OLED/AMOLED display, high screen refresh rate, stereo speakers, RGB lighting, secondary display, and dual USB Type-C ports. It may be powered by a large 6,000mAh battery coupled with a 65W or 80W fast charging tech.  

The ROG Phone 6 will have to fight it out against some other upcoming smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 such as the iQOO 10 Pro, Xiaomi 12 Ultra, Motorola Edge 30 Ultra/ Motorola Frontier, Realme GT 2 Master Explorer Edition etc. You can check out the complete list of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 smartphones here. The ROG Phone 3 and the ROG Phone 5 were introduced in India on the same day as the global launch, so expect the ROG Phone 6 to arrive in India on July 5, 2022.
