Audio-based social media platform, Clubhouse, is rolling out support for 13 additional languages—Arabic, Bengali, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Farsi/Persian, Hausa, Igbo, Marathi, Nepali, Somali, Thai, Turkish, and Yoruba. These will join the recently updated 13 local languages—French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Malayalam, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish, Tamil, and Telugu, which Clubhouse had announced back in November 2021.
Clubhouse was launched for iOS users back in 2020 and quickly gained traction during the COVID-19 pandemic. By February 2021, it amassed 8.1 million downloads. Clubhouse was later launched for Android users worldwide and gained even more popularity. It is currently valued at an estimated $4 billion in just over a year after its launch.
Clubhouse Updated Languages, Features
Indian users now get a chance to select from seven regional languages; namely, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. The Clubhouse app now supports more than 100 languages worldwide. Users can select a language of their preference to interact, share experiences, join rooms, listen to podcasts, and make new friends on the Clubhouse platform.
Clubhouse is working towards bringing more India-specific content on its platform to attract more users. It recently announced its new Indian app icon, Anirudh Deshmukh, a musician, singer and composer from Mumbai. The company says Anirudh joined Clubhouse at the start of the year and now has a 72,000-member club, where he hosts his nightly show ‘Late Night Jam.’
Aarthi Ramamurthy, Head of International, Clubhouse, had this to say about their app icon:
We can feel how passionate Anirudh has been about helping build this musical corner of the Clubhouse community and we love how he encourages others to come as their authentic selves. We’ve also been impressed to see how audiences have responded to the ‘Late Night Jam’ rooms, and joined from across international borders and timezones just to listen in. We’re so excited that more Hindi speakers — and people the world over — can now find their way into your rooms more easily
That’s not all, Clubhouse has also introduced a new ‘Topics’ feature. It allows users to display their interests on their respective profiles. They will have thousands of topics to choose from. Additionally, the app offers granular control over their search results. Users can search for their favourite sports, academic interests, music, politics, etc. The topics will be displayed on their profile for visitors to see. Additionally, the app lets users create a room with their desired topics. Creators can add or change the topics even when the room is live.
The update is rolling out for both Android and iOS users.
