It was reported last month that Google Calendar is planning to migrate Assistant Reminders to Tasks. Now, sleuths at 9to5Google have discovered more details about this transition. It has been revealed that tasks will not support location-based reminders. While Remainders will not see any changes under Keep, it will no longer be integrated with Calendar.
The report has delved into the latest APK file uploaded by Google to the Play Store to find code snippets which give an idea about upcoming features. Lines of code are revealed by decompiling the APK files. Do note that the functions may or may not be included in the final product, since the APKs are not completely finished.

Google Calendar version 2022.26.x includes many strings detailing the migration of Reminders to Tasks. Some snippets hint that this process will be mandatory soon, as indicated by the following line of code.
<string name=”reminders_migration_card_title”>Soon your reminders will be upgraded to tasks</string>
There also appears to be an option that will let you trigger the process yourself.
<string name=”reminders_migration_card_button”>Turn my reminders into tasks now</string>
Unfortunately, Google Tasks does not allow you to add location-based reminders. Locations for older reminders will be relegated to the text description of the task. The code snippet reads, “If a reminder has a location, it will appear in the task’s description. You will not receive any location-based notification from it.”
Once the migration from Reminders to Tasks is complete, your existing reminders will be retained in Google Keep. However, there’s no way to convert reminders into tasks. Essentially, Reminders will not sport major changes under Keep. The only significant change is that it loses integration with Calendar.
