How India Can Still Qualify for the T20 World Cup Semi-finals
This is the current status of Group 2 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. With its three wins, Pakistan is sitting pretty at the top of the table while Afghanistan & New Zealand are slugging it out for the second & third positions, respectively. For India to stand a chance to reach the semi-finals, three crucial events have to happen.
- India has to win their next three remaining matches against Afghanistan, Namibia, and Scotland by a big margin with a good net run rate.
- Afghanistan has to win its match against New Zealand.
- New Zealand should not win by big margins in their remaining two matches against Scotland and Namibia.
If these three scenarios happen, then India, New Zealand, and Afghanistan will all have six points each. Then the team with the best run rate will go through the semi-finals of the tournament. Team India still has an outside chance of reaching the semi-finals with a superior run rate.
