HTC, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer, has announced its plans to launch a new smartphone. The company will showcase its new smartphone at an event in Taiwan on June 28, 2022. It is speculated to be a high-end phone and the teaser suggests that it will focus on the metaverse universe. If that holds true, we would be seeing a new flagship phone from the brand after a very long time, and we hope that they load it to the gills with features.
HTC once rocked the smartphone scene, especially when it introduced the HTC One and the HTC One M8 to the market. These phones came with a solid metal build quality and refined user experience, which became a benchmark for other Android smartphone manufacturers. Even the iPhone 6’s rear design was inspired by the HTC One. Later, the lack of innovation and uninspiring designs led to HTC’s downfall. Additionally, the advent of Chinese smartphones which were offered at aggressive prices made matters worse for the Taiwanese brand.
For those unversed, some of Google’s smartphones from its Nexus and Pixel lineup were made by HTC. Google later went on to acquire nearly 2,000 employees from HTC to work in-house for its Pixel series. Since then, we haven’t heard much from the Taiwanese brand. Back in 2018, it did try its luck with the cryptocurrency focussed Exodus 1 device but failed in its attempt to revive its smartphone segment.

HTC has invested heavily over the years in developing its VR equipment like the HTC Vive. The brand will be implementing its learnings of the virtual reality space to integrate its Viveverse open-source virtual reality platform into its new flagship. Although not much is known about this upcoming device, the silhouette of the handset in the teaser image gives an impression of curved glass at the front. We will know more about the device closer to the launch.
