Instagram has removed both the Boomerang and Hyperlapse apps from the App Store and Google Play Store, following a push by Meta to integrate all the features into one app. The move comes after the Meta-owned app recently announced the shutdown of the IGTV app in an attempt to keep all videos in the main Instagram app. Does that mean you will no longer be able to share funny Boomerangs with your friends?
Read on to know more about the recent Boomerang and Hyperlapse app deletion by Instagram.
Boomerang Is Still Available On Instagram Stories
Following a push by the parent company, Meta, Instagram has confirmed the deletion of standalone Boomerang and Hyperlapse apps from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store to consolidate some of its features to focus on the main app. However, the Boomerang app is still available in Instagram stories, where the users utilize it the most.
We’ve removed support for the standalone Boomerang and Hyperlapse apps to better focus our efforts on the main app. Boomerang is still supported in-app in Stories, and Layout remains a standalone app in the Store. We’ll continue working on new ways for people to be creative and have fun on Instagram.

Recently, Instagram has integrated many new features into the app to support creative content creation and discourage the need for additional editing apps. The efforts seem to be directed towards pushing Reels to compete with modern-day video-sharing services such as TikTok.

The Boomerang app comes with a fun feature that creates short, looping videos of random moves captured by users. Similarly, the app can convert live or burst photos into a Boomerang. While the standalone Boomerang app is gone, the feature continues to live on in Instagram stories.
The Hyperlapse app was used to make professional-looking time-lapse videos. Compared to the stock camera apps, the Hyperlapse offered impressive video stabilization. The app is no longer available, however, with the increasing availability of smartphones capable of far better video stabilization, we aren’t sure if users are going to miss the app.
While Boomerang is still available on Instagram stories, there is no clarity on whether the Hyperlapse feature will be available within the app in the future. Reportedly, Instagram has also introduced the Layout app to be used in the stories. The Layout app is used to create photo collages on Instagram.
