Apple’s latest iOS 16 for iPhone brings a lot of features such as the multilayered lock screen photo effect, lock screen gallery, improved Focus modes, Undo send message option, enhanced CarPlay, and more. It has also brought back the battery percentage indicator with this update. Eligible iPhone models running on the latest iOS 16 firmware will get this functionality. It is a useful feature that allows you to check the exact battery levels at a glance. Do note that this feature won’t be supported by all iPhone models.

This might come as a huge disappointment for the users of the aforementioned devices. They will have to rely on the Control Center for the battery percentage. It becomes inconvenient as you need to swipe for the Control Center and then view the battery levels.

Devices That Support Battery Percentage Indicator
Apple devices such as the iPhone SE, the iPhone 8 or earlier, and iPads have been sporting the battery percentage indicator for years now as they don’t come with a notch on their displays. With the new iOS 16 update, the iPhone XS series, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and all iPhone 14 variants will get the new battery indicator. If you have one of these devices, you can view the battery percentage right from the home screen, instead of going through the trouble of opening the Control Center.
You can navigate to the Settings app and tap on the Battery option. If your device supports it, you will see a new toggle called “Battery Percentage”. Just tap on it to enable the battery indicator.
Alternatives For Devices That Don’t Support The Battery Percentage Indicator
If you own the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini, or the iPhone 13 mini running iOS 16, you can simply add a battery widget to your lock screen and home screen. This workaround should serve the purpose.
